£76.3 million

The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is the world's premier supplier of paper charts and publications, with a folio of over 3,300 navigational charts, 220 publications and an ever-growing series of digital and web-based products.

Over three quarters of the UKHO's charts and publications are sold to the worldwide merchant marine in accordance with Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Regulations. The UKHO's largest customer is the Royal Navy, accounting for 14% of turnover.

Based at Taunton in Somerset and employing around 1,000 staff, the UKHO became a Trading Fund within the Ministry of Defence in 1996, and is obliged to finance itself from trading revenue.

In its latest Annual Report & Accounts (2005/06), the UKHO declared net profits of £9.9m. Turnover increased by 12% from £68.1m in 2004/05 to £76.3m, showing consistent growth year on year.
