Mariners are requested to notify the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office when new or suspected dangers to navigation are discovered, changes observed in aids to navigation, or corrections to publications are seen to be necessary. The Mariner's Handbook (NP 100) Chapter 8 gives general instructions. If practicable the Mariner should also contact the originating Hydrographic Office when navigating on IMO Approved non-UKHO ENCs. The provisions of international and national laws should be complied with when forwarding such reports.
Detailed information on rendering data to UKHO is available in Chapter 8 of the Mariner's Handbook. To download a form, click on one of the links above according to the type of information to be sent. A dialogue may request information regarding 'Do you want to Open or Save this file?’ Open the file or save it according to whether you wish to make a hard copy or enter the data on the screen. The document may then be completed electronically and sent as an attachment using the e-mail link shown below. It is advisable to save the document before sending it. Alternatively it may be printed out and completed by hand, then sent by fax or mail.
In order to clarify reports, it may be useful to submit additional information such as chart images or photographs. It is possible to send such information either with the hard copy version or as attachments to the electronic copy. Commonly used formats include Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, JPEG, TIF, and AutoCAD but any format is acceptable. File sizes of the Hydrographic Notes range from approximately 61Kb to 70Kb; however the size of a returned e-mail would depend on any additional attachments that have been made.
